KANSAS CITY, Kan. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things that We Learned after the Galaxy’s 2-1 defeat to Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park.
TIME TO TAKE THE LONG ROAD TO MLS CUP…
The LA Galaxy finished with the fifth seed in the Western Conference by virtue of their 2-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
With the result, the Galaxy will head on the road to face Seattle Sounders FC in a knockout round game on Wednesday. The Galaxy drew Seattle 1-1 in their lone trip to CenturyLink Field earlier this month.
Tensions are sure to be high at CenturyLink Field between the two archrivals as Sounders players and fans undoubtedly remember the Galaxy knocking Seattle out of the playoffs on the road a year ago. Hold on to your butts, boys and girls.
THE COACHING STAFF HAS PLENTY TO FIX AHEAD OF THE POSTSEASON
Bruce Arena will have just a few days to retool an LA Galaxy team that is limping toward the postseason.
Just three weeks ago, the Galaxy were at the top of the league standings, but over the last few weeks, the club has seen their fortunes turn rapidly. During the team’s slide down the standings, the Galaxy have seen their vaunted offense fall silent—aside from Robbie Keane—and become too susceptible to lapses on the defensive end.
The margin for error will be nonexistent in the postseason as the Galaxy will enter the tournament as underdogs for the first time in years. Can the defending MLS Cup champions right the ship? We’ll find out against Seattle.
ROBBIE KEANE REMAINS THE LONE BRIGHT SPOT FOR THE GALAXY
Looking for some good news? Well, Robbie Keane is in the form of his life as the Galaxy turn their attention to repeating as MLS Cup champions.
The Galaxy’s Irish captain scored in his fourth consecutive match in the dying moments of first half stoppage time. The goal is Keane’s 20th of 2015—and his 17th in 14 games—which sets a new single-season LA Galaxy career high for the Irishman.
Heading into the postseason, there’s no doubt that the Galaxy will go as far as Keane will take them. But as good as the Irishman is, the Galaxy will need other players to step up for Los Angeles to defend their MLS Cup title.
