CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, July 21, 2015) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 20 of the 2015 MLS season for his performance against the San Jose Earthquakes Friday at StubHub Center.
Keane recorded his second-straight hat trick in MLS play to spark a 5-2 comeback win in the California Clasico. It was the fourth hat trick of his MLS career, tying Landon Donovan and Cobi Jones for the most in LA Galaxy history.
Down 2-0, Keane buried a penalty kick in the 30th minute to bring the Galaxy within one. With the score tied 2-2 in the second half, the Irishman then finished a free kick from Steven Gerrard, flicking the ball past SJ goalkeeper David Bingham to score what would be the game’s decisive goal. Keane then scored his third goal on another penalty kick later in the game, firing a ball past the diving Earthquakes goalkeeper to make the score 4-2.
The 2014 MLS MVP currently boasts nine goals and four assists in just 12 matches this season. He now has 62 career goals and 39 assists in 96 all-time MLS appearances along with 17 game-winning goals and 16 game-winning assists.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
