Ventura County FC advanced to the Western Conference Final with a 1-0 victory over Portland Timbers2 at Providence Park on Sunday night. Arnau Vilamitjana scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute, marking his second consecutive match with a match-winning goal after heading in the extra-time winner against Minnesota United FC 2 in the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Goalkeeper Sebastian Conlon also recorded a clean sheet against Portland as VCFC punched its ticket to the next round of the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs. With a spot in the MLS NEXT Pro Cup on the line, Ventura County FC will host LAFC2 in the Western Conference Final on Friday, October 30 at 7 p.m. PT at Dignity Health Sports Park, with the match being free and open to the public.
VCFC's postseason run comes on the heels of a strong regular season in which the club, led by Head Coach Matt Taylor, finished third in the Western Conference. Ventura County opened the playoffs with a 3-2 extra-time victory over Minnesota United FC 2 before earning a shutout road win over Portland Timbers2 in the Western Conference Semifinals to advance to the conference championship match.
